Most of my present Naval Architectural work is the preparation of Stability Information Books for MCA Code of practice or full stability assessments for RCD compliance for Category A and B vessels.
For some of these vessels it has been necessary to take the lines from the hull to produce a lines plan from which the stability can be assessed. Other lines plans have been produced in this way to calculate tonnage to Merchant Shipping Tonnage Regulations.
After graduating and before setting up on my own I worked in the design office of Classic Yacht restoration drawing the designs for the refit of a large wooden minesweeper.
Working for Cougar Marine I was responsible for the drawings for the interior fitout and various components from gun mounts to window catches. I was contracted by Halmatic to produce a drawing portfolio for basic Nelson workboat.
In all these workplaces I liaised with all the relevant tradesmen.
Although I am qualified to undertake structural calculations I prefer to pass the structural calculations for FRP on to an associate who specialises in these. I provided structural calculations for new build in steel and use the same process to establish adequate thicknesses for steel plating for Code and vessels under repair.
